A Slow Start at the Sunapee GS

The men and women traveled down to Sunapee for the first race of the season.  With cloudy skies and some snow the women skied to a 4th place finish.  Emma LeBlanc '14 started out her college career with a bang placing 6th with a combined time of 1:48.94.  Kia Mosenthal '12 and Emily Simmons '12 finished 10th and 11th respectively followed by Catherine Stewart '13 with a time of 1:56.50.  The women's team welcomes freshman Maria Mastanduno and Ellen Richardson in addition to sophomore Andre Radke to the team.  On Saturday, the women finished 5th with Emma again skiing to a 6th place finish overall with a time of 1:54.09.  Captain Krista Consiglio '11 finished 14th overall and Kia finished 29th.  The women hope to build upon their slow start next weekend at the Cranmore slalom races here in North Conway.

On Friday, the men finished 8th with Captain Jeffrey Ernsting '11 leading the way with a time of 1:54.63.  Sophomore Brady Caspar '13 made his college day debut on Saturday in a big way with a high speed crash that left carnage across the course.  On his way down, Brady managed to remove a panel, demolish two gates, and delaminate his ski.  Saturday, the men finished 7th for the first time in years.  With Brady back in action on loaner skis, he provided a strong scoring time behind Jeff to help the men overtake St. Anslem and earn the 7th place finish.
